An emotional Ralph Hasenhüttl fell directly to his knees after the last whistle at Southampton-Liverpool (1-0) and burst into tears. The 1-0 victory over the champion of the country did a lot with the trainer.
Why Hasenhüttl plunged into the earth is not entirely clear, but his team took three key points in the Premier League. “I had tearful eyes because of the cold wind,” the coach shouted sarcastically at the end of the day against the BBC. “When you see these guys fighting with everything they have in them, it makes me very proud. You have to play the perfect match against Liverpool, and I think youve succeeded.”
He continues: “We were under intense pressure the second half, but defending around 16 was the key to success. And trying to attack ourselves as well, we did it in a good way. It was an intense game, my voice is almost gone. It was a perfect evening for us.”
Matchwinner Danny Ings emphasized how important he finds the practice master for his team. “He is full of passion and brings that to the game and that is great for us players to see. Through the trainer we go through the fire and that has paid off against Liverpool.”
