Virgil van Dijk is back on the field. The 29-year-old Liverpool defender posted a video on Instagram showing how he holds a ball at the Dubai sports complex, where he works to recover from a severe injury. In October, Van Dijk was injured to his right knee during the Merseyside-derby against townmate Everton (2-2) and had to undergo surgery.
“ I will do everything I can to return as soon as possible,” said the captain of the Dutch team. “I look at my rehabilitation process from day to day, and my focus is entirely on that.” Coach Frank de Boer hopes that Van Dijk will be restored in time for the European Championships next summer.
Van Dijk initially worked on his recovery at the Liverpool training complex. A few weeks ago, he went to Dubai to continue rehab. This weekend he met his former teammate Dejan Lovren, who is at training camp in Dubai with FC Zenit. “Virgil suffered a severe injury, but he looks stronger than ever,” wrote the Croat on Twitter. “Youre back to top level soon, brother.”
