Vitesse has won three points to a bizarre duel with FC Groningen. The home team ended with nine men and the game was also interrupted because Groningen supporters were misbehaving.
Groningen had something to make up for its own audience after last weekends defeat to Willem ll. The same goes for Vitesse, who lost 1-4 to FC Twente at home. The pressure is also full of pressure on the Arnhemmers. Not only with trainer Thomas Letsch, as well as technical director Johannes Spors.
Vitesse had Groningen in tang the first minutes of the game, although Cyril Ngonges greatest chance was. And a little later Jorgen Strand Larsen left a chance at the opening target. After Ngonge missed another chance, the match tilted. After the VAR intervening, Groningen defender Mike was sent red off the field in Wierik because he remained on the foot of Loïs Openda. Severely punished, it turned out afterwards.
During the injury time of the first half, Yann Gboho took advantage of a clumping in the back of Groningen and so Vitesse came 0-1. Even before the rest signal, trainer Danny Buijs had to continue with nine men after Daniël van Kaam Vitesse deprived a hundred percent scoring chance.
It got even crazier when Vitesse goalkeeper Markus Schübert was pelted by a Groningen supporter before the start of the second half. After that, referee Allard Lindhout decided to stop the game. After a twenty minute hiatus, in which several half-naked supporters hit the field, resumed.
The two red cards had already shrunk the chances of a Groningen stunt. So it was mainly a matter of keeping damage limited. Groningen did everything possible to disrupt Vitesses play and tried to force something in the final phase. However, it remained at 0-1 in the Euroborg.
