The turf in the Gelredome will be replaced immediately. Over the past period, the turf has suffered a lot of damage. Because the playing field could not improve significantly in the short term, it was decided to replace it. One of the causes of the poor state of the field is problems with drainage.
Pascal van Wijk, general director of Vitesse, thinks it is important to invest in the playing field: “Having a good playing field is one of the preconditions that belongs to top sport. Because the current field is in such a bad condition, we have chosen to deal with this in the short term by creating a completely new playing field. We therefore assume that we have a well-playable mat in the stadium for the rest of the season.”
From Friday work will take place on the field. The new mat is playable from the next home game. In a week, three home duels will take place. In addition to the competition duels against VVV-Venlo (Saturday 27 February) and AZ (Sunday 7 March), Vitesse will also play a home match in the semi-final of the TOTO KNVB Cup against VVV-Venlo on Tuesday 2 March.
