Vitesse presents Cocu

Phillip Cocu is back with Vitesse after 27 years. The club proudly announces its return on Monday. Cocu will sign until mid-2024.
Cocu played Vitesse from 1990 to 1995 and thus returns to the old nest. Vitesse is a warm club with sporting ambitions, where I have wonderful memories as a player. To return here as a trainer now fills me with pride, of course. For me, it‘s the right club at the right time, says Cocu on Vitesse’s club site. Of course, the club comes from a challenging situation and a difficult competitive start, but I believe in the quality of the players and look forward to working with the team and staff.
Technical director Benjamin Schmedes is delighted with the appointment of Cocu. Because we were able to switch quickly, the first training after the short break can be led directly by him. The pleasant conversations with Phillip have confirmed that he is a great fit for the intended profile. He knows the club and the competition well, has a lot of national and international experience, exudes calm and was also immediately available.
Above all, he is the right person to further develop our playing style. Phillip stands for a focus on possession of the ball, with a drive forward and a certain intensity, but with a stable basis and a pragmatic approach. We are convinced that Phillip can find the way up with our team. We would like to welcome him. In the coming days, we will still be appointing a new assistant coach, who will assist Cocu together with Marink Reedijk.
