It was a dream, a dream start for the club, says Georgios Giakoumakis. The 25-year-old Greek striker, last in action for the Polish Gornik Zabrze, shot VVV-Venlo last Sunday with three goals to a 5-3 victory at FC Emmen.
For the first time in the clubs history, VVV-Venlo closed a round of play as frontrunner of the premier league. Keep it that way…, says coach Hans de Koning. Since he took office on 22 December 2019 VVV only lost two matches (4 won, 4 tied, 2 lost).
Friday evening against FC Utrecht, VVV can win its first two premier league games of a season for the third time in club history. Previously it succeeded in 1956/57 (the very first edition of the premier league) and in 2017/18.
We feel good, we are happy and we trust each other, says top scorer Giakoumakis. Hopefully we can show it again
Georgios Giakoumakis is the third Greek player with a hat-trick in the premier league, after Georgios Samaras (1x) and Nikos Machlas (7x). Look below at the section Short Corner of Marcel van Roosmalen in Studio Soccer with a leading role for the Greek.
