Wake-up call 2/9: Charlie Hebdo – Black Lives Matter trial at the Catshuis

Good morning! Fourteen people are on trial today for their role in the attacks in Paris at the beginning of 2015, and action groups Black Lives Matter and Kick Out Zwarte Piet will talk to Prime Minister Rutte and Minister Koolmees

There are sunny periods, but there are also cloud fields. However, it remains mostly dry. The afternoon temperature is between 19 and 21 degrees.

Are you going on the road today? Here you can find an overview of the activities. Check here the adjusted timetable for the railways.

What can you expect today?

In France, the trial of fourteen people who are alleged to have been accomplices of the Muslim extremists who attacked the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket in 2015 begins. Prime Minister Mark Rutte talks to the protest movements Black Lives Matter and Kick Out Zwarte Piet. Together with Minister Wouter Koolmees he receives the activists at the Catshuis. They talk about ways to fight racism in society. The House of Representatives debates the corona crisis and the measures taken. The position of Minister Grapperhaus will also be discussed. He recently went through the dust because not enough distance was kept at his wedding

What did you miss?

Pictures of the wedding of Minister Grapperhaus of Justice and Security resurfaced. Last night, SBS Shownieuws showed photos in which the minister seems to be shaking hands and hugging his mother-in-law.

Last week Grapperhaus was discredited by images of his wedding. It showed that he and his guests did not comply with the other hall rule on the steps of the town hall. It led to indignation.

Other news from the night:

Man in Amsterdam died after arrest. The man was arrested earlier in the evening for harassing visitors to a restaurant. He was unwell in the cell complex in Amsterdam-West and taken to the hospital, where an attempt was made to resuscitate him. Pigs dead in a fire in Zeeland: it is not yet clear how many pigs died in the fire. Last night the fire broke out in a barn with stables. The fire brigade prevented the fire from spreading to another barn. The fire is now under control. Skipper barely prevents a collision with bridge: a container ship almost crashed into the Twistvlietbrug in Zwolle. The skipper made a mistake and set course on a part of the bridge that cannot be opened. He realised just in time that his ship was too high and made an emergency stop by going into full reverse

You can see that the anchor was also thrown out.

And then this:

45 escaped horses galloped around the centre of Weesp last night. They were suddenly able to wander freely through the city due to a mistake in the riding school. “Normally we have a watertight system, but this time it went wrong. The gate from the meadow to the stable already opened, while nobody was waiting for the horses”. After five minutes they returned of their own accord, without having done any damage.

Have a nice day!
