“Was offered a raise, but I wanted to increase to top player level”

Tarik Tissoudali has had the chance to leave KAA Gent several times this summer. The Belgian club offered him an offer for a contract extension, but Tissoudali has not accepted for the time being.
Several clubs from different countries have made a direct or indirect attempt for Tissoudali, who was unleashed in Belgium. There were concrete offers. Nice clubs — a top club from Turkey and a Swiss team — but it wasn‘t convincing enough to leave. I haven’t even bothered to talk to Ghent about it. That wasn‘t worth it, Tissoudali tells Het Nieuwsblad. In Turkey, I didn’t want to play, at least not at that club. In Switzerland, neither. Cold there, he laughs.
Tissoudali only leaves when ‘everything is right’. Ghent made him an offer that, according to his agent, was not good enough. That‘s what I found. I was offered a raise, but I wanted an increase at the level of the top players. It was stuck to corona, you’re going to hear that again, he laughs again.
What does Tissoudali hope for the coming season? I‘m personally aiming for the top four so we can compete for the championship. Union, Antwerp, Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Genk: they all have to get used to a new coach. That is not always easy. That plays in Ghent’s favor. We still need reinforcement, especially in width. Jordan Torunarigha is gone. With him, there could be constant changes in the back. That was our strength after New Year. In the back, we were very strong. We also need a good keeper, because there is a way.
