Water giant ‘grateful’: ‘Must be champions in Eindhoven against that Ajax’

Ronald Waterreus sees that the entire Premier League benefits from Ajaxs good performance in the Champions League. The former goalkeeper of PSV sees the other Dutch top clubs moving up to the level of the Amsterdammers.
โ€œAlthough Ajax is doing it in the Champions League and those other clubs at a significant level lower, progress has certainly been made at various clubs,โ€ Waterreus tells Ziggo Sport about the European performance of PSV, Feyenoord, AZ and Vitesse. โ€œAnd we all really benefit from that now.โ€
According to Waterreus, the other clubs can be grateful to Ajax. โ€œYes, sure. Ajax won the Champions League in 1995, and if we wanted to be champions in Eindhoven at that time, we had to be champions against the Ajax that won the Champions League. So that does mean that you have to go to that level yourself, otherwise you won
t get there. That is now true for the other clubs.โ€
โ€œI also think that you can see something of that in how European plays are played,โ€ continues the seven-time international. โ€œI think Vitesse might be the best example of that. Against clubs like Spurs and Rennes, they really stay quite afloat. Thats pretty pretty anyway.โ€
