Not only Arjen Robben and Maarten Stekelenburg returned to the Dutch football fields this summer, many more players got homesick for the premier league.
This week we count down to the start of the league that starts Saturday with the game sc Heerenveen-Willem II. A somewhat different start than planned, as the game between FC Utrecht and AZ has been cancelled and moved to December 27.
Today we’ll take a look at Vurnon Anita, who recently enforced a contract with RKC Waalwijk after a season at the Bulgarian CSKA Sofia.
After a year in Bulgaria, Anita was able to stay abroad, but the 31-year-old midfielder decided to return to the Netherlands after all. After Ajax and Willem II, RKC is his third club in the Netherlands.
“I could keep playing abroad, but I felt it was better to come back,” he says. “I want to play soccer again and show myself to the Netherlands.”
