Wife of drug lord ‘El Chapo’ recognizes role in Sinaloa drug cartel

The wife of the notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman, better known as ‘El Chapo’, admits to helping her husband with the organization of the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel. The court in the United States can sentence 31-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro to life imprisonment.

Coronel Aispuro also stated at a hearing that he was guilty of drug trafficking and money laundering. She also admitted to having played a role in her husband‘s escape from a Mexican prison in 2015. Even before the hearing, the former beauty queen was expected to make a confession. She will hear her sentence on September 15th.

She was apprehended in February on arrival in the United States. She was accused of helping Guzman with his drug trafficking from 2012 to 2014 by passing messages

to him, even after his arrest in February 2014. to include running a criminal organization, money laundering and dozens of murders. The Sinaloa cartel is known as one of Mexico’s most violent drug organizations.
