Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of the notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán Loera, is expected to plead guilty this week on charges stating that she had helped her husband in organizing the Mexican Sinaloa cartel. Thats what The New York Times reports on the basis of an insider.
It is expected that she will appear in court on Thursday. If she pleads guilty, according to the newspaper, that does not mean that she is also obliged to release information about her husbands allies, business partners or relatives.
31 year old Coronel was arrested last February when she arrived in the United States via Dulles International Airport, just outside Washington. Prosecutors also accuse Coronel of having participated in two attempts to escape her husband from a Mexican prison in 2015 and 2016.
El Chapo is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted in February 2019 for trading large volumes of drugs and for his participation in multiple murder conspiracies as leader of the Sinaloa cartel, one of Mexicos most violent drug organizations.
