Georginio Wijnaldum has made a statement for the first time since his serious injury. The midfielder says that he has had a very difficult time with his tibia fracture in recent weeks. Wijnaldum does not talk about the Dutch national team, with which he will not go to the World Cup.
Through social media, Wijnaldum distributes its self-made video message. “Since my injury, I haven‘t let you know, simply because I was very emotional and sad about the situation,” starts the Dutch international. “I want to apologize for that first. I can guarantee that I am in a good environment. I have now accepted the situation, so I can now give everything in my rehabilitation.”
Subsequently, Wijnadum thanks his old clubs and Roma fans for their support, among others. “It gives me strength to come back as soon as possible. I know it’s tough for you guys too, fans. I just joined the club and we all had very high expectations for this season. But there is still time. I‘m doing my best to return soon.”
In the video message, Wijnaldum does not speak a word about Orange. Due to his tibia injury, the reserve captain of the Netherlands cannot go to the World Cup. Earlier, national coach Louis van Gaal left Wijnaldum out of his selection.
A quick update from me. The last weeks I was very emotional and sad, but I’ve learnt to accept the situation how it is and my recovery is going well. Thanks to everyone for all messages and support. It gives me power to come back as quick as possible. Hopefully see you soon. 💛❤️ pic.twitter.com/0v8Z8vPuTb
