The return of the Monkey Island adventure puzzle series was a pleasant surprise for fans, as the new Return to Monkey Island game was created by original developers, Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman. But, as producer and director Craig Derrick may suggest, this may be just the beginning. Craig Derrick, who led the production of The Secret of Monkey Island and produced a number of other games in the series , shared his joy at how warmly they welcomed Return to Monkey Island.
And he said he was waiting for the time to “return to the mansion. ” The highlight is beyond doubt: Derrick is referring to Maniac Mansion, which Lucasfilm Games released in 1987.
In 1993, its sequel, Day of the Tentacle, was released, and Double Fine Productions released its remaster a couple of years ago. Derrick mentioned his desire to “return to the mansion” back in August, accompanied by a trailer for an improved version of Maniac Mansion released in 1989.
As we remember, back in 2016, Ron Gilbert asked Disney to sell him the rights to Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion &mdash ; promising to pay with “real money”. Who knows if, in addition to Return to Monkey Island, Gilbert also plans to Return to Maniac Mansion?
