Winter sports may, but après-ski ban in Austria

Ski holiday in Austria will be a lot less cozy next season.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has declared an après-ski ban. Corona infestations are rising hard again in Austria. The ban applies to the whole winter season, writes Bild.

Ski fun is fine, but without après-ski, he says. Winter sports enthusiasts should wear a mouth mask in the gondolas and keep their distance.

In restaurants, it is allowed to eat and drink only at tables. In addition, cafes and restaurants in some regions have to close at 22:00. Ski schools can have up to 10 pupils per group, says Minister of Tourism Elisabeth Köstinger.

In Austrian ski resorts, many foreigners became infected with the virus during the previous winter sports season. Critics accuse the authorities of having acted too slowly. Hundreds of Dutch people have also joined a consumer organisation that wants to claim damages on behalf of the victims.
