Woman dies after accident on A2 near Nieuwegein, ‘kickboxer Van Roosmalen wound’

In the accident on the A2 near Nieuwegein, a 29-year-old woman was killed. A 31-year-old male was injured. According to police, the victims were in the emergency lane this afternoon when they were hit by a truck.

The victims, both from Den Bosch, were taken to the hospital. There the woman died of her injuries, writes RTV Utrecht. The driver of the truck has been apprehended. Police investigate the incident and call on witnesses to report.

According to Omroep Brabant, the victims are kickboxing champion Robin van Roosmalen and his sister Melissa. According to the broadcaster, an already deleted message on social media showed that the two were standing by the highway with car breakdown. Condolences are posted on social media. Also the well-known organizer of kickboxing events GLORY wishes the family and relatives strength with their loss.

Because of the accident, the A2 between the intersections Everdingen and Oudenrijn was closed for hours. Meanwhile, the road has been released again. According to Rijkswaterstaat, the safety rail was damaged over a length of seventy metres and oil had landed on the road surface.
