Football: Beerschot promoted Still (28) to head coach after leaving Losada
The Belgian football club Beerschot has appointed Will Still as head coach. He was the assistant of Argentine Hernán Losada, who chose to continue his career at the American club DC United.
The only 28 years old Still, who also worked at Lierse SK and Standard Liège, is the youngest trainer at the highest level in Belgium.
Beerschot is the number 10 of the Belgian football league.
Cycling: Alaphilippe starts season in Provence
12.38 hours: For world champion Julian Alaphilippe the season begins in the Tour of Provence. The French cyclist of Deceuninck – Quick-Step will make his first race kilometers of this year from 11 February. The race, which started in 2016, includes a ride to Chalet-Reynard, a few kilometers below the top of Mont Ventoux.
Alaphilippe only participated in the four-day race once before, in 2016, and at the end of February he will also show his rainbow jersey in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, reports his team.
“ I cant wait to show that jersey in as many races as possible. I am still recovering from my fall in the Tour of Flanders, but I am taking significant steps. Im sure things will only be better in the coming weeks”, says Alaphilippe, who hit a motorcycle in the Tour of Flanders, in a breakaway with Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert.
Football: FC Twente has to miss Oosterwolde a few weeks
11.46 hours: FC Twente trainer Ron Jans can not have Jayden Oosterwolde for the time being. The defender dropped out last Thursday in the league match against Ajax with a hamstring injury. The Enschedese club reports on Tuesday that further investigation has shown that Oosterwolde is not employable “a few weeks”.
Jans saw attacker Vaclav Cerny in the duel with Ajax. On Friday it turned out that his injury is much more serious. The Czech is no longer expected to kick off due to a heavy knee injury this season.
Ice skating: Canadian skater Fish does not defend world title in Thialf
11.22 a.m.: Graeme Fish will not compete in the World Championships in Heerenveen next month. The 23-year-old Canadian is the reigning world champion in the 10 kilometers and also holds the world record.
“ It was the hardest decision Ive ever had to make. I would have liked to have just come to the Netherlands, but because of the coronavirus I think it is too big a risk”, said Fish to skatsen.nl.
“At the moment I think my health is just a little more important than a World Cup. I am still very young and would not want to jeopardize my future by travelling to the Netherlands and getting the virus there. Then Id rather stay in Canada and work on certain things, so next year Ill be better than ever. Its always been a dream to win gold at the Olympics. I know its a long way away now, but Im already working towards it.”
Fish broke the world record of his compatriot Ted-Jan Bloemen in February of last year in Salt Lake City at the 10 km of Salt Lake City: 12,33.86.
The World Cup distances are from 11 to 14 February.
Football: Torino finds new trainer 10.52 in former player Nicola
: The Italian football club Torino has found a new trainer in Davide Nicola. The 47-year-old Italian, former player of the club, succeeds Marco Giampaolo. Giampaolo was fired on Monday by the number 18 of Serie A.
Nicola also worked in his own country in recent years; at Crotone, Udinese and Genoa. Over the past few years, he managed to save clubs from degradation.

Badminton: Caljouw is stranded again in the first round
10.12 a.m.: Badmintonner Mark Caljouw has been eliminated in the first round at the Toyota Thailand Open in Bangkok. Lee Cheuk Yiu was in an exciting party just the better one: 13-21 25-23 22-20.
Caljouw went last week in the Yonex Thailand Open, also in Bangkok, also in the first round, then against Lees compatriot NG Ka Long Angus. Both tournaments from the WorldTour in Thailand do not count towards Olympic qualification. For this, it will be played from March, starting in Basel.

Basketball: Harden also in second duel for Nets

Kevin Durant added 30 points including a three-point 36 seconds before the final signal. The ball ended up with Durant after Harden missed a three-point but conquered the ball in the rebound. He passed the ball on to his teammate who proved to have determined the final score. Not much later, Khris Middleton missed a distance throw and the chance to get the Bucks ahead. He did it again with one second on the clock.
The defeat cost Milwaukee the leading position in the Eastern Conference, where Boston Celtics is now at the top. Los Angeles Lakers kept the lead in the Western Conference despite defeat though. Golden State Warriors was too strong in LA with 115-113. Stephen Curry was 26 points top shooter with the Warriors. At the Lakers, LeBron James stayed stuck on 19 points.
Water polo: Water polosters in Trieste hunting for Olympic ticket
07.16: The Dutch water polosters will hunt for a ticket to the Olympic Games this week in Trieste. The Olympic qualifying tournament is the last chance for the team of national coach Arno Havenga to place for Tokyo.
Orange opens the tournament in the bubble in the Italian city at 8pm against Slovakia. In group A, Orange also plays against host country Italy (Wednesday at 2pm) and France (Thursday at 4pm). On Friday are the quarter-finals, Saturday the decision falls into the battle for the last two tickets to Tokyo. Havenga expects Oranje to compete against Hungary or Greece, on paper the two strongest teams from group B.
The winners of the two semi-finals are in front of the Games. The Dutch water polosters grabbed Olympic gold in 2008, but both 2012 and 2016 at the OCT joined a ticket for the Olympics. In 2012, Oranje lost the decisive match in Trieste against Italy (6-7). Four years later, at the qualifying tournament in Gouda, Spain went wrong at the last minute (7-10).
