It is that Joshua Zirkzee has to play with Jong Orange against Young Portugal on Wednesday at the same time, otherwise the striker would have taken the time to look at Poland against the Netherlands in the Nations League. This will be a confrontation between two of his examples: Robert Lewandowski and Memphis Depay.
“ Robert is a complete striker, I think the best there is right now,” says Zirkzee about the 32-year-old Polish top shooter, his teammate at Bayern Munich. “He is excellent in every field. Heads, jump, in the combination, you name it.”
Zirkzee was transferred in November last year by trainer Hansi Flick and three other talents from the second team to the first team of the German top club. The 19-year-old striker scored on his debut against SC Freiburg. In February of this year Zirkzee made its debut as a base player. In the away match against Hoffenheim, he took the place of Lewandowski, who was injured at the time.
This season Zirkzee plays mostly in the second team of Bayern. The former youth player of Feyenoord did reach a few minutes in the first team and he also trains with the selection of Flick. “I try to bring as much of Lewandowski as I can. And I try to combine that with my own game,” says Zirkzee in Zeist, where he is preparing for the confrontation with Jong Portugal in the EC qualification. “Robert is always open to teaching young guys like me. What do I learn from him? Making walking, timing, how he moves if we start an attack from backwards. All that kind of pee thingies.”
