Karel Brandsma, head scout of SC Heerenveen, looks back on the period of Hakim Ziyech in Friesland with great pleasure. Brandsma saw the young Ziyech playing football in Dronten and immediately brought him to the Abe Lenstra Stadium.
The main scout remembers a passionate youth player. “During his period in our youth training, Hakim was a very confident player,” explains Brandsma in an interview at First Time Finish. “He really had the will to be successful. A boy who was almost allergic to mediocrity. Ziyech had a lot of respect for trainers and coaches at the club who did their best to make him better.”
In addition, Brandsma thinks that the Moroccan playmaker, who currently plays at Chelsea, has had a lot to do with the way he was treated at Heerenveen. “He got all the attention and training he wanted. He was welcomed in a pleasant way by a host family and they treated him well there. This is the atmosphere and the conditions we are trying to create at Heerenveen: players are part of our blue and white family.”
